A Birdhouse for SAFE HOUSE!!!

The fundraiser for the SAFE HOUSE of ABQ is right around the corner and I have participated in it for the last three years in a small way…each year I have painted a birdhouse for their dinner/auction event, a wonderful time that takes place on the enclosed patio at a beautiful restaurant down in Old Town ABQ… SAFE HOUSE is a ministry to women and children, victims of domestic violence...for some reason, participating in this event touches my heart…and I am so grateful to be included in the festivities!!
I thought I would show you a few photos of my birdhouse…the process it went thru and the outcome…hope you enjoy it!  OH!  I almost forgot to add that a good friend of mine, Laverne Elliot, donated several of the pieces that I incorporated into the finished piece…such as the storytellers, the flagstone etchings, the (real!!) turquoise pieces, the skull (very Georgia O’Keeffe!!!) and the lizard…what did I contribute??  ….uhhhh, well, I think I stuck my finger in the paint!...
it started out with a wooden shell...then I prepared the wood and added texture...
I painted the surface, added the 2 storytellers, skull and leather cover for the door... then decorated the ground with turquoise pieces and paint as well as some areas of swirls...adding an etching in flagstone to an area in the back of the casita.
"Casa de Suenos" or "House of Dreams" is the name I chose for this casita...this is the back of the little house with a second storyteller and the flagstone etching...
below is the front from another angle...I added the stars, including a shooting star!...on the roof and across the front of the casa...
the gold and black are not beads....well, they are "beads" of paint! and the red swirls are also paint...
I finished it by varnishing the areas of red swirls, painting the windows and the dowels.  It was great fun and I hope that it will benefit SAFE HOUSE!!
Tomorrow I have plans to have my ABSTRACT ART GROUP out to my house for painting outside, painting on yupo paper and possibly even critiquing!!
Perhaps I will get some photos of other artists creating for my blog!
Thanks for stopping by!!

Women & Creativity Original Mini Paintings!

I participated in the Women & Creativity program (do you know about Women & Creativity?  It is a month-long (March) celebration of women which takes place primarily at the Hispanic Cultural Center but also all over Albuquerque, NM with workshops of all kinds, events, everyday!! is amazing!!) a small way this year...I have done this particular event for the last few years.  I made baseball card sized paintings to share with other artists of the world!!  I can say that ("the world") since there are artists from around not only the USA, but also globally who are participating in this one event...something that makes this whole thing just plain delightful!!!!

I sent my 10 painted cards to the folks in charge and they in turn will divvy up all of the cards from the other artists who are participating, encasing the paintings in a wonderful little book and returning the new selection of 10 cards to each artist who's so much fun!!

So I wanted to show you my paintings...all different, but related in technique and, here they are...

as you can see, every color in the rainbow!  ...topped off with touches of was great fun making these 10 mini paintings!  I can't wait to receive my assortment of little paintings from the other artists!!   and I look forward to participating again next year!!

WOW!! This is too beautiful to ignore...I haven't read this quote in a long time...but it touched my heart today and I thought I must share it with you here...take a moment and enjoy...let it speak to your heart!!...

This is the first in a series of quotes taken from Wassily Kandinsky's writings (which seem to be quite prolific!) speaking of color and its relationship to the soul. I will also be touching on his thoughts on abstract art in future postings.

"Generally speaking, colour is a power which directly influences the
soul. Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the
piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one
key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.

Well, the flooring is installed.  Our craftsman was truly a master at installation and Dave and I are most pleased with the outcome!  It took him 5 days to do the house but we love it!  The first two are the before pics...

He cut out the bad seams...
and laid the wood...not really, it's vinyl!  it actually has a 3D effect going with the texture of real wood running thru it...this is looking into my studio...
Before we get too much furniture returned to where it belongs, we are going to have the house painted...yayyyy!!
...from the entryway thru the tv room and into the living room...
Naturally, this is the most important room of the studio! everything is on wheels right now so that it can be moved no attention to the misaligned
 paintings on the wall!!
well, we still have a mess, but it will return to sanity in a few weeks!
