Original Paintings - Edges are So Important!!

Today I thought I would share more edges with you!  The morning sun was pouring in the back of the house lighting up a couple of paintings from my "Women Gathering" series, in particular...it seemed like the perfect time to take some photos since the sun lights up the pigments so beautifully!  Only two canvases...with rounded edges, not squared off...

...actually this painting is resting against a living room wall upside down!...the edge at the top of the painting (painted plain blue!) is not nearly as interesting as the sides or bottom edge...the sides and bottom edge allow the mingling of colors, with different thicknesses of paint...and sometimes patterns occur...I think that's why I paint like this...all of my paintings have a lot of surprises within them...some mystery, a little whimsy...they are soft and ethereal...much like the feminine!

...the same edge...

...the bottom edge...if you can, click on the image to see the detail...I think it is beautiful!  this bottom edge tempts me to hang it upside down!!  it is "the frosting on the cake"!!  but I will restrain myself and hang it upright like it should be!...maybe just higher on the wall so that that bottom edge can be enjoyed!

...the other side...

...another painting...this one has a lot of metallic paint on it, so getting a photo of it in the morning sun was a challenge!  I think that you can see most of the edge anyway...

...this is the top edge of the 2nd painting...

do you agree with me about edges??  I think they are very important in a painting!!  they are a foretaste of what is to come!

...thanks for stopping by my blog and sharing a few moments with me!
...have a lovely day!!

this is the frosting!

I want to thank the person who typed the words, "spiritual painting edges" into the word search on my blog...it brings a smile to my face to see them!!!!!  I think those are Important words...infact, I love to think about them...and I have even created with those words firmly in mind!!...with those words as the object of the creating...

This morning was a new day...the morning sun managed to shine thru the window shade and wake me up...yesterday's frustrations are but a vapor!  (yayyyy!!)  and today I am thinking of exciting things to do on canvases...this is the frosting...this is the fun of creating!...living it!

backatcha special person...three special words to you...spiritual painting edges!!

did this small painting a long time ago...
black gesso creates the texture...with acrylic paints...

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta...ahhh, memories!!

Tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 13th, is the last day of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  It is always kind of a downer to know that the last day of the festivities has arrived!  There is something so magical about looking up into the sky and seeing brightly colored gigantic balloons flying overhead...it speaks of freedom, wonder, creativity, whimsy, fun, delight in childrens' eyes, maybe even a day off from work!! Following are a few photos of how it looked one day this week from our back porch when the winds favored us by sending a bunch of balloons our way...

...the sun peeking over our mountains on a pretty hazy morning...

...they synchronize the balloons, usually about 600 to 800 of them! for take-off...

...the view of the balloons as they head North, with the Sandia Mtns in the background

...it looks like the sun is beginning to burn off the haziness...

they are getting closer!!

a special shape...Darth Vader!!!

...always fun!!!

this balloon flew right overhead and landed by a neighbor's house...the dirigibles look like artworks painted in the sky!

...a favorite memory...years ago, I homeschooled our four children and we had a wonderful time "chasing" balloons all over our neighborhood and our fair city!!  strangely enough, that was the way we discovered one of our sons was color-blind!!  The balloons often used the field behind our house, which was in Abq. at the time, to land in...memories!!

The San Ysidro Church Art Show in Corrales, NM...my favorite show!!!

This is the week of the much anticipated Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  The balloons, a beautiful sight to behold, have been participating in the many events... the peeps have been up before the crack of dawn, wrapped up in layers of warm clothing for the early morning festivities down at the balloon field (or just in their jammies on their back patios, like us!)...it's a great time of the year!

This is also the week of the San Ysidro Church Art Show in Corrales, NM...and it is a lovely event!  This is my favorite show of the year!  why?  I think because of the setting...an historic church, converted to a building which all can use...in the lovely village of Corrales, a rural area plopped right down on the north side of the bustling city of Albuquerque.

I also love this show because they often show artwork that would be considered abstract...or at least contemporary, in theme...that means my artwork has a better chance of getting in the show than other shows allow for...usually, anyway!
One of my artworks was accepted into the show this year (yayyy!)...as well as the artwork of several friends...as always it is a wonderful eclectic mix of media, techniques, sizes, etc...always fun!!

this is the church...isn't it beautiful?!!!

the next photo shows the reason that the art show is held annually...the monies collected are used to maintain the church bldg...the stucco exterior is very susceptible to deterioration due to weather...so each year volunteers re-apply that protective stucco as was done historically...you can see that the damage this year was quite extensive...much rain, which is a blessing as it refills the aquifer and the Rio Grande River...we need the water, sometimes desperately!  ...but the rains also can create problems...

some of the attendees at the reception...you can see that the interior of the church bldg. is equally as lovely as the exterior...

Rosario Correa, a friend/artist, standing with her "Jalapeno Spam"!!

Phyllis Popp, a friend/artist, standing with a piece of her beautiful pottery...

Tom Popp, a friend/artist, standing with his very beautiful painting of a farm...

Cecelia Zajack McRoberts, a friend/artist, standing next to her lovely
abstract painting...

and my painting, "Sanctuary", from my WOMEN GATHERING series...it is a spiritual line about women on their paths, women supporting women...this is a painting of a woman meditating/praying...

The show runs till 4pm on Sunday, Oct 13, 2013,
so please stop by to see it!

Original art, Painting Edges are Important!

I love edges!  so I try to make them as interesting as what's on the front!  people don't always approach a painting from the front...I bet most of the time they come toward the painting from the side or at an angle...edges are important!  they are a foretaste of what is to come...
